A couple weekends ago when my sister Molly was visiting me, we decided to take a long morning walk and ended up at Stonefruit Espresso + Kitchen in Bed Stuy. I'd heard about this new cafe from the owner's blog here, and also through beautiful pictures I'd seen on Instagram. We arrived fairly early - around 9:30 - to what looked like a desolate corner to find the cafe already bustling! It was super bright and cheery inside and I sort of want to move in. Luckily we snagged a table along the edge near a window but soon after a long queue formed of people taking out coffee and pastries. Since almost anything involving avocado is my jam I got the avocado smash with a soft boiled egg on top. Molly and I also each ordered an iced matcha tea latte (my mom is a big tea fan, but i'd only had hot matcha before) and then lurked hardcore at our table for a while.
I absolutely loved the avocado smash (trust me, I've had pretty gross avocado toast at establishments in NYC before) and I'd definitely come back here just for that. Avocado toast seems to be a pretty big trend right now but I really like it because there are a lot of ways to prepare it. The avocado toast at Stonefruit Espresso + Kitchen had seeds and sprouts mixed in and was also lemony with a bit of a kick. I also liked the hearty bread. The matcha tea latte was really rich but so creamy and delicious. Also I liked the cool geometric glasses. Where can I get these? I'd love to come back here and try out some of the yogurt/granola combinations and their actual coffee, but it was an awesome first time there! Also, as I'm writing this I just spilled wine all over my sweatshirt, so I think it's time to sign off for now. P.S. check out Molly's blog here!
